Residents across Ogun State have listed road repairs, job creation, improved healthcare, and support for traders among their top demands from Governor Dapo Abiodun, urging him to focus more on the needs of the grassroots.
In a vox pop conducted by PLATFORM TIMES across Abeokuta, Sagamu and other parts of the state, traders, students, artisans, workers, and professionals highlighted pressing issues they want the governor to urgently address.
At the bustling Sapon Market, a trader, Mama Rashidat, pleaded for financial assistance and better trading conditions. “Women traders need real support. Soft loans and better market facilities will help us survive,” she said.
Faith Ogundipe, a student in Sagamu, called for recruitment of more lecturers in state-owned institutions and the provision of scholarships to ease the burden on struggling families.
For Tayo Adigun, a mechanic in Abeokuta, flooding and youth unemployment are twin challenges that must be tackled head-on. “We need proper drainage and good roads in Saje. Every time it rains, the roads become worse. Youths also need empowerment — many of us are skilled but lack tools or funding,” he lamented.
Other residents, including Rasaq Adeleke and Babatunde Alabi, stressed the urgent need for electricity, functional healthcare centres, and road rehabilitation across communities.
From the vox pop, recurring demands include: repair of roads and drainage systems ; youth employment and empowerment schemes ; improved healthcare access and facilities ; Educational support and scholarships ;water supply and soft loans for traders and increase in workers’ salaries.
The respondents expressed hope that the governor would not only listen but also act on these pressing needs.
“We voted with expectations,” one resident noted, “and we hope Governor Abiodun won’t forget the masses.”
