The Osun State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has accused the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating threats against its leaders, warning that it would not bow to what it described as “relentless tyranny.”
In a statement signed by its chairman, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, the congress alleged that leaders of the opposition party had launched open attacks and coordinated smear campaigns aimed at endangering the lives of labour leaders for speaking against what it called constitutional breaches by the APC.
Arapasopo, in a strongly worded reaction to a statement credited to the Osun APC, described the party as “a den of louts, charlatans, fibsters, and degenerates” bent on rewriting history and shifting blame for the hardship ravaging the state’s local government system.
“The only reason NULGE members were asked to remain at home was because APC thugs earlier this year stormed local government secretariats, destroyed property, terrorised communities, and caused the loss of lives. The masterminds of that violence have neither been brought to book nor shown remorse,” Arapasopo said.
The NLC boss alleged that the APC had resorted to propaganda because it failed to lure striking NULGE members back to work, stressing that workers would not be sacrificed “for some phoney politicians to fill their coffers with the sweat and future of others.”
He also dismissed claims that he was acting as a mouthpiece of Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing the allegation as a “pathetic attempt” to blackmail him.
“Labelling me as being bankrolled by Governor Adeleke is a shameful lie. These hoodlums now follow me around, claiming I stay in hotels and travel with escorts.
“That alone is proof that my life is under surveillance. I call on security agencies to hold them accountable if anything happens to me,” he said.
Arapasopo urged Osun workers and pensioners not to fall for what he called “devilish designs” by those responsible for their economic hardship, recalling how the APC’s past governance allegedly reduced citizens to “living from hand to mouth.”
“Their frustration is that they cannot manipulate workers into returning to the lions’ den. I urge our members to ignore their threats and remain steadfast in the struggle,” he charged.
The NLC maintained that it would continue to resist intimidation and defend the welfare of Osun workers, insisting that no threat would silence its voice against injustice and lawlessness.
