The United Premier Movement (UPM) has commended President Bola Tinubu for what it described as a strategic and timely reshuffle of the nation’s Service Chiefs, saying the decision reflects the President’s commitment to revitalising Nigeria’s security architecture.
In a statement issued in Abeokuta and signed by its Convener, Hon. (Chief) Olalekan A. Shoyinka (Ayinla Egba), the movement lauded the President’s courage and foresight in responding to the country’s pressing security challenges.
Shoyinka noted that the appointments came at a time when the nation requires renewed vigilance and stronger coordination to safeguard lives, property, and democratic institutions.
“President Tinubu has once again demonstrated courage and foresight in strengthening the country’s security architecture. His decision shows an unwavering commitment to protecting our sovereignty and restoring public confidence in the Armed Forces,” the statement read.
While commending the outgoing Service Chiefs led by General Christopher Musa, UPM applauded their “years of patriotic service and dedication to the nation,” adding that their efforts had laid the groundwork for future improvements in national security.
The group congratulated the newly appointed Service Chiefs — General Olufemi Oluyede (Chief of Defence Staff), Major-General W. Shaibu (Chief of Army Staff), Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke (Chief of Air Staff), and Rear Admiral I. Abbas (Chief of Naval Staff) — urging them to approach their new roles with renewed vigour and patriotism.
“We charge the new Service Chiefs to defend our democracy with every legitimate means, foster inter-service cooperation, and embrace intelligence-driven operations. Above all, the welfare of our troops must remain a top priority,” Shoyinka said.
He stressed that the lives of Nigerians must be regarded as sacred, warning that citizens’ confidence in the Armed Forces can only be sustained through professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights.
“If the new military leadership stays focused and committed, they will not only justify the President’s confidence but also secure a lasting legacy in our nation’s history,” the UPM convener added.
Shoyinka expressed optimism that the shake-up in the military hierarchy would usher in a new era of peace, stability, and unity across the country.
“May this new phase in our Armed Forces rekindle hope and foster greater unity for our beloved country, Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
