The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), through its Kaduna Area Command, on Wednesday commissioned a fully renovated Senior Officers’ Mess at the Kabala Doki Customs Barracks, Kaduna, in a move aimed at strengthening officers’ welfare, operational efficiency and morale.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, Deputy Superintendent of Customs, Dauda Adamu, on behalf of the Customs Area Controller, Kaduna Area Command disclosed this on Friday.
Adamu said the commissioning ceremony, held on December 17, 2025, and was led by the Customs Area Controller, Kaduna Area Command, Comptroller Sa’ad Hassan, adding that, the Zonal Coordinator, Zone B, Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, Nsika Umoh, formally inaugurated the facility on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs.
The upgraded Mess, according to him, has been redesigned to provide “a befitting, functional, and conducive environment for official engagements, fitness activities, and social interaction among senior officers,” with a view to fostering teamwork, professionalism and effective service delivery within the Command.
Speaking at the event, the Zonal Coordinator praised the Kaduna Area Controller and his management team for what she described as “foresight, initiative, and prudent utilisation of resources” in executing a project that directly impacts the wellbeing of officers.
She noted that the renovation aligns with the reform agenda of the Comptroller-General of Customs, which, she said, places premium on improved working conditions, professionalism and discipline.
According to her, “the project aligns with the broader reform agenda of the Comptroller-General of Customs, which prioritises improved working conditions, professionalism, and discipline as key drivers of enhanced revenue generation, trade facilitation, and border security.”
Also speaking, Comptroller Sa’ad Hassan expressed gratitude to the Zonal Coordinator, Assistant Comptroller General of Customs Nsika Umoh, Assistant Comptroller General Idris Abba-Aji, and other senior officers for their “continuous guidance and support” to the Command.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Kaduna Area Command to welfare-driven initiatives, stressing that officers’ wellbeing remains central to achieving the Service’s mandate.
Hassan urged officers to take collective responsibility for the facility, calling for “proper maintenance of the Mess in line with the core values and standards of the Nigeria Customs Service.”
The ceremony featured an inspection of the renovated complex, a brief formal programme and a group photograph involving senior officers, other ranks and invited guests.
According to the Command PRO, the event underscored its “collective commitment to professionalism, welfare, and excellence in service delivery,” as the Service continues efforts to improve internal conditions while strengthening its operational effectiveness.
