Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has raised the alarm over the alleged killing of three farmers in his hometown of Igboho, Orelope Local Government Area, Oyo State.
In a statement issued on Monday, Igboho identified the victims as Aderoju Mukaila, Olawuwo Saka, and Ojeniyi Ojebayo.
According to him, the farmers were attacked with axes, cutlasses, and other dangerous weapons by suspected Fulani herdsmen after protesting the destruction of their farms by grazing cattle.
The victims were reportedly rushed to a hospital but succumbed to their injuries despite medical efforts to save them. Igboho described the incident, which allegedly occurred on Sunday, as a continuation of persistent insecurity warnings he has issued in the area.
“This is exactly what I have been warning the government about for years. Nothing has changed, and our people continue to suffer attacks while those responsible roam freely,” he said.
He called on President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government to take urgent steps to curb the rising insecurity in rural communities across Oyo State and the South-West.
Igboho warned that patience among victims and their families is wearing thin, cautioning that this could lead to self-defence measures.
The activist also urged security agencies to enhance protection in the Oke-Ogun axis, stressing the need for actionable intelligence to arrest perpetrators and prevent further violence.
He highlighted the threat posed by rogue herdsmen, bandits, and hoodlums infiltrating rural settlements and forests across the South-West, as well as parts of Kwara and Kogi states.
Igboho insisted that prompt arrests and prosecutions were crucial to deterring such crimes and restoring peace in affected communities.
