Veteran Nigerian singer, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has declared that he has put an end to what he described as reckless lifestyle choices that once defined public perception of his private life.
The award-winning musician made the statement in Benin City, Edo State, during the MC EdoPikin Undiluted with StarBoy and Legends show, moments before stepping on stage to perform.
Speaking candidly to the audience, the African Queen crooner said he now feels compelled to openly address long-standing narratives surrounding his relationships with women, insisting that he no longer lives the way many people assume.
“I get confession. I dey make this confession everywhere I go now to set the record straight. I don stop to dey do that kind of thing.
“I don stop to dey give belle anyhow. I swear, ask anybody now, they will tell you that I’m innocent,” 2Baba said in Pidgin English, drawing cheers from the crowd.
The singer’s personal life has, for over two decades, attracted intense public scrutiny, often rivaling attention given to his music career.
He is widely known to have children with multiple women, a situation that has frequently sparked debates and social media commentary.
His first known baby mama, Sumbo Adeoye, has two sons for him, Zion and Nino.
Their relationship reportedly ended around 2009 following revelations of his involvement with other women.
He also has three children with Pero Adeniyi, born between 2006 and 2012.
With actress Annie Macaulay-Idibia, whom he married in 2012, the singer shares two daughters.
However, the couple announced their separation in 2025, bringing an end to one of Nigeria’s most talked-about celebrity marriages.
More recently, 2Baba welcomed another child with his new partner, Natasha Osawaru, a development that reignited public debate after reports emerged of a controversial marriage arrangement.
Beyond his personal life, the music legend also used the opportunity to speak on issues within the Nigerian music industry. In a separate video message circulating online, 2Baba dismissed the notion of a “wack artist,” arguing that music success is driven more by business strategy than raw talent.
“Every music is tailored to evoke an emotion. There is nothing like a wack artist,” he said.
According to him, many artistes often criticised for lack of talent end up more financially successful because they understand branding, marketing and promotion.
“That is why many of the so-called wack artists are more bankable than the talented ones. It is not just the art; it is the marketing of the art,” he added.
The singer further noted that no song can appeal to everyone, stressing that audience acceptance depends largely on how well the music resonates with its target market.
2Baba remains one of Nigeria’s most influential music figures, with a career spanning over two decades, even as his life off stage continues to generate headlines almost as frequently as his work in the studio.
