TTragedy struck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday as a road accident involving Nigerian-British boxing superstar, Anthony Joshua, claimed the lives of two persons in Ogun State.
The fatal crash occurred in Makun area, near Danco Filling Station, when a Lexus SUV conveying the former heavyweight world champion reportedly collided with a stationary truck under circumstances that are still being investigated.
Eyewitnesses at the scene said the impact of the crash was severe, leaving two occupants dead on the spot, while emergency responders swiftly moved in to rescue survivors.
A source involved in the rescue operation confirmed that Joshua sustained only minor injuries and was promptly attended to by medical personnel.
The source added that the victims who lost their lives were not immediately identified as of press time.
“The vehicle ran into a stationary truck along the expressway. Two people died instantly, while Anthony Joshua was lucky to escape with minor injuries,” the source disclosed.
The Lexus SUV, bearing registration number KRD 850 HN, was said to have been badly damaged in the crash.
Joshua, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated sports exports, was recently in the global spotlight after defeating Jake Paul in a much-publicised heavyweight bout tagged “Judgment Day”, held on December 19, 2025, at the Kaseya Center, Miami.
As investigations continue, road users have called on relevant authorities to improve highway safety measures to prevent further loss of lives.
