No fewer than 320 indigent residents of Olorunda and neighbouring communities have benefitted from a food distribution exercise organised by the Orunda Educational and Humanitarian Foundation, as part of efforts to ease hardship and make the New Year celebrations joyous for the less privileged.
The outreach, held in Olorunda town, drew beneficiaries from Aiyetoro, Idi-Ori, Ilara, Keesan, Imeko and other surrounding communities.
The foundation, established by the Orunda of Olorunda, HRH Oba Joshua Olusegun Eniitan Phillips-Ogunsola, said the initiative was in line with its long-standing commitment to humanitarian service and community development.
Speaking at the event, Oba Phillips-Ogunsola explained that the food distribution was one of the cardinal programmes of the foundation, which, according to him, has over the years intervened in the areas of education, healthcare delivery and provision of basic infrastructural support for the less privileged.
He expressed appreciation to friends, associates and partners who supported the initiative, while urging other well-meaning individuals and organisations to complement government efforts by extending support to vulnerable members of society.
The monarch also called for unity, brotherliness and love among residents, stressing that peaceful coexistence remained critical to sustainable development in the area.
Earlier, a member of the foundation, Dr Tola Adenekan, in his welcome address, thanked donors and volunteers who contributed to the success of the programme.
He urged residents to cultivate the habit of helping one another, describing acts of charity as divinely rewarded.
In their goodwill messages, the Baale of Idi-Ori village, Alfa Adeniran Mikhail, the Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria in the area, Pastor Noah Samuel, and the Youth Leader, Mr Olarenwaju Jelili, commended the Orunda of Olorunda for what they described as a visionary and unprecedented initiative in the history of the community.
Two beneficiaries, Mrs Abosede Olejede from Ilogun Orile and Pa Muraina Rufai, who spoke on behalf of others, expressed gratitude to the foundation, noting that the food items—rice, beans, semolina, spaghetti, noodles, salt and other essential ingredients—would significantly support their families during the New Year period.
The event was attended by community leaders, including Chief Tajudeen Tinubu, the Balogun of Olorunda; several baales; executives of the Orunda Community Development Association; the Chief Imam of Olorunda town; leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the area
