Residents of Ajíregùn community and 11 other villages in Sagamu on Monday staged a peaceful protest at the palace of the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, expressing outrage over alleged land grabbing and intimidation by a man identified as Kamilu Lamina, popularly known as Sir K Oluwo.
The protesters accused Lamina of forcefully claiming ownership of their farmlands, an act they said has restricted access to their lands and deprived many families of their primary source of livelihood.
Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Say No to Sir K Oluwo” and “Say No to Ajagungbale,” the villagers demanded urgent intervention from the traditional ruler.
Speaking on behalf of the affected residents, Mrs Adesanya Omotayo alleged that Lamina had been terrorising landowners since last year, particularly targeting elderly individuals.
She claimed the disputes had escalated to harassment, physical assault, and even killings, forcing many farmers to abandon their lands in fear.
“Our lands are our lives. Farming is our occupation, and we cannot survive without access to them. We are appealing to the Governor of Ogun State and the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly to step in and protect us,” Mrs Omotayo said.
Receiving the protesters on behalf of the Akarigbo, the Lisa of Ofin, Chief Adeyemi Salami, acknowledged their grievances but stressed that the palace could not give judgment on the matter.
Chief Salami advised the residents to engage legal practitioners to prepare detailed petitions addressed to the Akarigbo, assuring that the documents would be forwarded to the Governor for necessary action.
“The palace will ensure due process is followed and that the concerns of the people are communicated to the relevant authorities,” he said.
The protesters noted that each of the affected villages occupies an estimated land area of about 400 acres.
