A 27-year-old man, Oloyede Oluwaseyi, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman by touching her without her consent.
The defendant was docked by the Ekiti State Police Command on Tuesday, following a complaint lodged by the victim, identified as Oluwabusayo.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the alleged offence occurred on February 1, 2026, in Ikere-Ekiti.
According to him, the defendant unlawfully and indecently touched the victim without her consent.
Oriyomi said the alleged act contravenes Section 269(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021, and is punishable under the same law.
The charge, however, was not detailed in open court.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the allegation.
Counsel for the defendant, Joy Egunson, urged the court to admit her client to bail, assuring the court that he would not abscond and would be available for trial.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate ordered that the sureties must be credible persons and adjourned the case until March 10, 2026, for hearing.
The matter is expected to proceed to trial on the adjourned date.
