Yoruba self-determination agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has publicly declared that he combines traditional spiritual practices with his Christian faith, insisting that the use of charms does not contradict his religious beliefs.
Igboho made the disclosure while addressing a council of traditional rulers, where he spoke candidly about his religious background, upbringing and spiritual convictions.
“I am a Christian, but I use charms. I do all religions. Even Islamic father, Muideen Ajayi Bello is a Muslim, I am a Christian. I was born in church, but I do charms. I was trained in the act,” he said.
He further revealed that his father was a babalawo based in Modakeke, noting that he was exposed to traditional spiritual practices from an early age.
“Everyone knows my father is a babalawo in Modakeke,” he added.
Igboho hails from Igboho town in Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State but grew up in Modakeke, Osun State, where his family relocated during his childhood.
The activist has remained a controversial figure in Nigeria’s socio-political landscape, particularly for his agitation for the Yoruba nation and his outspoken opposition to activities of suspected killer herders in the South-West.
His campaigns at the height of insecurity in the region reportedly drew the ire of the Federal Government, leading to security crackdowns and legal battles.
Igboho, however, maintained that his spiritual choices are personal and rooted in his upbringing, suggesting that faith and traditional practices can coexist.
