The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has ordered the immediate recall of all batches of MR.7 Super 700000 capsules following safety concerns over undeclared pharmaceutical ingredients.
The agency, in a notice released on Monday, said the recall was prompted by findings from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which detected the presence of sildenafil and tadalafil—active drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction—in the product.
NAFDAC explained that these substances are phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitors. Since they were not listed on the product label, MR.7 Super 700000 capsules are considered unapproved drugs whose safety and efficacy have not been verified.
The male enhancement product, manufactured by StuffbyNainax LLC and marketed as a dietary supplement, should not have contained these active ingredients, the agency stressed.
Consumers and retailers are advised to immediately stop using or selling the capsules and return them to the nearest NAFDAC office.
The regulator further warned that consumption of undeclared sildenafil or tadalafil could pose serious health risks, particularly for individuals taking nitrate-based medications for heart conditions, such as nitroglycerin. Such
interactions can lead to dangerously low blood pressure and, in severe cases, death. People with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease are especially at risk.
NAFDAC also urged healthcare professionals and the public to report suspected counterfeit or substandard drugs through its official channels.
This recall follows recent alerts by the agency concerning unsafe and falsified medicines in circulation, including counterfeit Avastin (Bevacizumab) 400 mg vials, used in cancer treatment.
NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health by continuously monitoring the quality, safety, and effectiveness of medicines in Nigeria.
