The National Youth Service Corps has expressed grief over the death of a corps member in Abeokuta, Ogun State, pledging full cooperation with authorities to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a statement on Saturday, the scheme described the development as tragic, noting that investigations were already underway to ascertain the cause of death.
“The management of the NYSC is deeply saddened by the loss of a corps member in Abeokuta, Ogun State, under circumstances currently being investigated by authorities and stakeholders concerned nationwide,” the statement read.
The scheme extended condolences to the family of the deceased, praying for the repose of her soul and strength for her loved ones in the period of mourning.
It reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, stressing that both staff and corps members are bound by a strict code of conduct.
The NYSC also assured the public of its commitment to transparency and justice, saying it was working closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure accountability.
“We assure the public that we are cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities to ensure the truth is established and that justice is served without fear or favour at all times,” it added.
While urging restraint, the scheme cautioned against speculation, noting that premature conclusions could undermine ongoing investigations.
It further emphasised that the welfare, safety and dignity of corps members remain its top priority.
