No fewer than 5,000 participants are expected to converge on the Royal Pavilion, Ijebu-Ode, on Monday as the Ogun State Government marks the 2026 International Women’s Day in conjunction with the state’s 50th anniversary celebration.
The event, organised by the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, is themed “Give To Gain” and is scheduled to commence at 9:00am.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, said the programme would draw participants from diverse sectors, including professional bodies, women groups, artisans, and representatives of both formal and informal sectors.
She explained that the celebration aims to underscore the need for sustained investment in women through empowerment initiatives, access to education, and the creation of inclusive opportunities as a pathway to sustainable development.
According to Adeleye, a keynote address will be delivered by a former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Senator Abiodun Olujimi, who is expected to speak on the theme, with a focus on how strategic investment in women can drive socio-economic growth.
The commissioner added that the event would also feature a segment dedicated to political solidarity, where participants would reaffirm their commitment to unity and collective progress within the progressive fold.
She noted that the initiative is part of broader efforts by the state government to promote inclusivity, strengthen women’s participation in governance, and foster a more equitable society.
