There was mild drama at the premises of the Federal High Court Kaduna on Tuesday as operatives of the Department of State Services denied the wives of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, access through the court’s main entrance during his arraignment.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the incident occurred shortly after officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission brought the ex-governor to court at about 9 a.m.
One of his wives, Asiya Ahmed El-Rufai, who arrived at the court dressed in an ash-coloured veil, was reportedly stopped at the main gate, which had been locked by security operatives.
Eyewitnesses said she appeared visibly agitated as she requested access from a masked DSS officer stationed at the gate.
“I’m Mrs El-Rufai. Who do you want me to call to allow me in?” she was quoted as saying. However, the operative declined to respond to her request.
She added, “What is happening here today will pass,” before she was eventually directed to use an alternative entrance.
Moments later, another wife of the former governor, Khadija Ahmed El-Rufai, was also prevented from gaining entry through the main gate and was similarly asked to access the court through the rear entrance.
Unlike Asiya, Khadija, who was dressed in a black abaya and headscarf, was said to have remained calm as she complied with the directive and made her way into the courtroom through the back entrance.
Security presence around the court was significantly heightened, with operatives maintaining strict access control as proceedings commenced.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the DSS nor the ICPC had issued an official statement regarding the restriction imposed on the former governor’s family members.
