The Police Service Commission has sanctioned scores of officers of the Nigeria Police Force, ordering dismissals, demotions, prosecutions and reprimands in what appears to be one of the most sweeping disciplinary actions in recent years.
The decisions, contained in an internal communication dated March 5, 2026, and referenced PSC/1524/IV/1/102, were conveyed through a police wireless message from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, directing immediate implementation across commands and formations nationwide.
Among those affected is Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Garba Musa Yusuf, who received a severe reprimand alongside several senior officers, including Deputy Commissioners of Police Oyeleye Adegboyega and Usman Sheikh Adamu, as well as Assistant Commissioner of Police Gwazah Alex Sani.
Also reprimanded are Chief Superintendents of Police Gregory Ikpehia, Nwazi Chika Philip, Yusuf Mapindi, Daiyabu Saidu, Hadiza Ado, Aliu Moses Abayomi, and Mustapha Lawal, among others across various ranks.
The Commission directed that all officers found culpable of falsification of records be prosecuted, instructing relevant units including the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Interpol, Counter-Terrorism units, Mobile Police Force, and state commands to ensure strict compliance.
The signal read in part, “Ensure that all officers alleged of falsification of records should be charged to court.”
In addition to reprimands, the PSC approved the dismissal of three officers—CSP Audu Yahaya Washuwanda, DSP Adedokun Adeleye, and ASP Mohammed Umar—while ordering the prosecution of ASP Maruff Funmilade, ASP Everest Magaji, ASP Ahmed Shehu, and ASP Okeke Joseph.
Several officers were also demoted. ACP Jimoh Jabaje Moshood was reduced in rank to Chief Superintendent of Police, while CSPs Alhassan Majia, Ado Aminu Yusuf, and Shaba John were downgraded to lower ranks.
Similarly, DSP Akilo Abiodun Samson and a number of Assistant Superintendents, including Ibrahim Audu, Sadiku Haruna, Ubong Emmanuel, and Ekowo Matthew, were demoted, with some surcharged over the loss or damage of police property, including firearms.
The Commission, however, cleared some officers of wrongdoing. Those exonerated include DCP Akintunde and Commissioner of Police Francis Omatimeyin Faseyiku, as well as ACPs Ogbonnaya Nwota and Ebipamowei Okoyen, CSP Anayo Nwano, and SP Pirfa Ibrahim.
In a related development, DCP Ibrahim Sa’ad was approved for retirement on the grounds of age.
The directive emphasised strict enforcement, noting that individual letters detailing the punishments would be transmitted to affected officers through their respective commands.
