The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested 22 persons, including a hotel manager, over alleged immoral activities in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the suspects were apprehended during a raid on Stephrica Guest Palace located at Kureken Sani area of the council on Wednesday following intelligence reports.
Confirming the development on Thursday, the Deputy Commandant of the board, Mujahid Aminudeen, disclosed that the suspects comprised 10 males and 11 females.
He said the operation was carried out after the board received credible information from residents alleging that the individuals had converged on the hotel for activities considered immoral.
Aminudeen expressed concern that most of the suspects were teenagers, with ages ranging between 12 and 19 years.
He said, “The suspects were arrested following intelligence reports from concerned residents that they were gathered in the hotel engaging in activities considered immoral.
“Regrettably, the occupants are mostly underage. We are using this opportunity to warn hotel owners against allowing minors access to their facilities or face sanctions.”
The Hisbah official added that the identities of the suspects, including the hotel manager, would be made public after due legal processes.
He noted that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reiterating the board’s commitment to enforcing moral standards under Sharia law, Aminudeen urged members of the public to continue providing useful information to authorities.
The Hisbah Board, a state-backed body, is mandated to promote social order and enforce compliance with Islamic moral codes in Kano State, particularly in areas such as prohibition of alcohol, prostitution and public indecency.
The agency has, in recent years, intensified raids on hotels and event centres suspected to be harbouring activities deemed contrary to the state’s moral and legal framework.
