Armed gunmen have invaded a government-owned health facility in Akure, abducting three health workers, stripping them naked and draining their bank accounts in a brazen early morning attack.
One of the victims, Omolabake Kayode, who survived the ordeal, told journalists on Saturday that the attackers stormed the Comprehensive Primary Health Centre in Oke Ijebu around 2am, throwing the facility into panic.
Kayode said the assailants arrived in a bus, forcefully entered the premises and dragged her alongside two colleagues into the vehicle, while other workers on duty fled for safety.
“They came in a bus and barged into the centre. Some of my colleagues ran into the toilets, but the attackers dragged them out, beat them and collected their phones,” she recounted.
She explained that the victims were driven to a bush along the Akure-Ondo Expressway, where the gunmen subjected them to humiliation and financial exploitation.
“They ordered us to lie down and demanded our bank details, including codes and mobile app access. They transferred all the money in our accounts, seized our phones, stripped us naked and warned us not to raise our heads or they would kill us,” she said.
According to her, the attackers later fled the scene, abandoning the victims unclothed in the bush.
“After some time, they drove off and left us there. We were terrified. I had to pick up my shirt that fell off and put it back on,” she added.
The victims, she said, trekked to a nearby correctional facility in Olokuta, where officials alerted operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, leading to their rescue.
Confirming the incident, the Amotekun Corps Commander in the state, Adetunji Adeleye, said the three health workers were rescued around 4:30am and are currently receiving treatment at the corps’ facility.
Adeleye further disclosed that operatives also rescued a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son who were abducted on Friday evening at Pelebe community along Oda Road in Akure, following a confrontation with their captors.
The incident underscores growing insecurity in parts of Ondo State, with residents increasingly exposed to violent attacks and abductions, particularly during the night.
