The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria has announced plans to host the second edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards (TNBA) on April 8, 2026, in Abuja, as part of efforts to promote professionalism and reward excellence in the country’s broadcast industry.
According to a statement issued on Thursday, the event will hold at the NAF Conference Centre, Kado, from 6pm to 9pm.
BON said the awards, endorsed at its 74th General Assembly in Kano in 2021, were designed to celebrate outstanding contributions and encourage high standards in radio and television broadcasting.
The organisers disclosed that the 2026 edition attracted 204 entries, reflecting broadcast performances recorded in 2024, following a nationwide call for submissions.
The Awards Selection Committee, chaired by former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Danladi Bako, comprises representatives from key industry bodies, including the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria and the National Broadcasting Commission, alongside veteran broadcasters.
A total of 24 categories will be contested at the ceremony, covering both radio and television segments. These include Station of the Year, Reporter of the Year, Newscaster of the Year, and Producer of the Year.
Beyond competitive awards, BON said the event would recognise notable figures who have made significant contributions to the development of broadcasting in Nigeria.
Among those billed for lifetime achievement honours are Shyngle Wigwe, Yemi Farounbi, and John Momoh.
Others include Abubakar Jijiwa, Sa’a Ibrahim, and Bimbo Oloyede.
The awards will also feature posthumous recognition for late industry icons such as Raymond Dokpesi, alongside Timawus Mathias, Okokon Ndem, Anike Agbaje-Williams, and Patrick Ityohegh.
In addition, BON said it would honour key public officials and stakeholders for their support to the media sector.
They include the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; Governors Bassey Otu, Dauda Lawal, and Uba Sani; as well as former BON Executive Secretary, Obadiah Tohomdet.
Corporate organisations to be recognised include DAAR Communications Plc, MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, Desmins Broadcasting (DITV), and the Voice of Nigeria.
BON noted that the awards ceremony would not only celebrate excellence but also serve as a platform to inspire innovation and sustain growth in Nigeria’s broadcasting landscape.
