Babcock University has announced plans to host a two-day Innovation Ventures Summit aimed at galvanising stakeholders across sectors and unveiling an ambitious blueprint to position Nigeria as a global technology hub.
The summit, scheduled for April 21 and 22 on the university campus, is expected to bring together government officials, corporate leaders, academics, investors, and innovators to deliberate on the future of technology, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation in the country.
At the centre of the event is a proposal to establish a world-class innovation hub within the institution—an initiative the university described as critical to driving Nigeria’s competitiveness in the rapidly evolving global digital economy.
In a statement released on Saturday, the university said the summit would serve as a “call to action” for stakeholders to collaborate in building a robust ecosystem that supports research, innovation, and enterprise development.
It noted that the proposed hub would function as a platform for startup incubation, industry partnerships, and the commercialisation of ideas, while also fostering synergy between academia and the private sector.
“The global economy is being reshaped by innovation and artificial intelligence. Nations that fail to act decisively risk being left behind,” the statement read.
“This summit is designed to mobilise the ideas, partnerships, and investments required to secure Nigeria’s place in that future.”
Organisers added that the initiative seeks to harness the country’s youthful population and expanding digital landscape by creating opportunities for talent development and technological advancement.
A summit coordinator said the project was aimed at unlocking Nigeria’s innovation potential through a structured and collaborative ecosystem capable of producing globally competitive solutions.
Activities lined up for the summit include keynote addresses, panel discussions, live demonstrations, and strategic sessions focused on emerging technologies, policy frameworks, and investment opportunities.
The university called on public and private sector stakeholders, development partners, and investors to support the initiative through partnerships, funding, technical expertise, and policy backing.
It added that the summit would also provide a platform for participants to explore avenues for collaboration and resource mobilisation necessary to actualise the proposed innovation hub.
The institution expressed optimism that the event would attract national and international attention, placing both the university and Nigeria at the forefront of innovation discourse in Africa.
“The future will not wait—and neither should Nigeria,” the statement added, urging stakeholders to participate actively in shaping the country’s technological advancement.
