Operatives of a joint security task force in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State have arrested two suspected kidnappers and recovered N8 million ransom allegedly paid by the family of a victim.
The operation also led to the rescue of an abducted woman from a forest hideout, in what authorities described as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to curb kidnapping in the area.
Media aide to the LGA Chairman, Danaan Cletus, disclosed the development in a statement on Saturday, noting that the suspects, identified as Waltu Watter and Sale Mamma, were apprehended following a coordinated security operation.
According to the statement, the suspects were linked to the abduction of a woman and the killing of her father, Alhaji Saidu Mamma, during the attack. The assailants were said to have collected N8 million ransom before their arrest.
Speaking during the parade of the suspects, the Chairman of Qua’an Pan LGA, Dr. Christopher Audu Manship, vowed that the council would not tolerate criminal activities within its jurisdiction.
“We will not allow criminals to operate in Qua’an Pan or use this LGA as a safe haven after committing crimes in neighbouring areas,” he said.
Manship commended the security agencies for their professionalism and swift response, directing that the recovered ransom be returned to the family of the deceased.
In a related development, security operatives rescued one Mrs. Gambo Bello, who had been abducted in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and taken to the Pandam Game Reserve in Qua’an Pan.
The council boss said the rescue followed credible intelligence on suspicious movements in the area, which prompted a targeted search operation in the forest.
He further expressed appreciation to the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, for his support in strengthening security architecture across the state.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the suspected kidnapping syndicate.
