The Nigerian Army has arrested two serving soldiers over their alleged involvement in an unauthorised security deployment during the wedding ceremony of popular content creator, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, and TikTok personality, Jarvis, held in Lekki, Lagos State.
The soldiers, identified as Private Onasanya Ifeoluwa (23NA/85/10007) and Private Ukpai Onyinyechi (23NA/85/7885), are attached to the 81 Division Medical Services and Hospital, Obalende, Lagos.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the personnel were arrested on Tuesday following intelligence reports alleging that military personnel were deployed without official authorisation to provide security at the celebrity wedding, which attracted entertainers, influencers and other high-profile guests.
Military sources said preliminary investigations had commenced to determine the extent of the soldiers’ involvement and identify other personnel who may have participated in the operation.
A military source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak publicly on the matter, said the arrests followed credible intelligence received by the Army.
The source said, “Following credible intelligence on the involvement of Nigerian Army personnel in an illegal deployment during the popular social influencer’s wedding in Lekki, Lagos, the personnel were arrested.
“Preliminary investigation is ongoing to establish the extent of their involvement and identify other personnel connected with the incident. Further details will be forwarded as the investigation unfolds.”
The arrests came after videos from the lavish wedding surfaced on social media showing uniformed military personnel providing security and crowd control at the venue.
One of the viral clips allegedly showed a soldier escorting one of the social media personalities through the crowded event, sparking widespread public criticism and raising questions over the use of military personnel for private functions.
The wedding, held over the weekend, generated significant online attention, with several videos circulating across social media platforms.
The Nigerian Army has consistently maintained that serving personnel are prohibited from undertaking private security duties or participating in deployments outside official assignments without appropriate military authorisation.
The ongoing investigation is expected to determine whether the deployment breached military regulations and whether disciplinary action should be taken against any officer or soldier found culpable.
