The Academia Campus Journalists (TACJ), University of Ibadan, Abeokuta Chapter, has honoured the Editor of PLATFORM TIMES, Daud Olatunji, veteran broadcaster Mr Eddy Aina, public affairs analyst Dr Ola Animasaun, and the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, for their outstanding contributions to journalism, public communication and nation-building.
The awards were presented during the association’s 10th Anniversary and 9th Annual Symposium, held on July 29, 2026, at the Theatre Arts Hall of the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta.
The event, themed, “Journalism and Insecurity: The Roles of Campus Journalists and Professionals in Promoting Peace and National Development,” attracted over 150 participants, including students, media practitioners, academics, security experts and other stakeholders.
Olatunji received the Defender of Truth Award, while Aina was honoured with the Voice of a Generation Award. Animasaun received the Statesman of Media Excellence Award, while Babaseyi was presented with the Peace Communication Laurel Award.
According to the organisers, Olatunji was recognised for his unwavering commitment to truth, balanced reporting and investigative journalism.
Aina was honoured for his decades-long dedication to journalism and broadcasting, as well as his mentorship of younger journalists.
Animasaun was recognised for his contributions to public discourse and political analysis in Nigeria and the diaspora, while Babaseyi received the peace communication award for his role in strengthening police-public relations and promoting peaceful communication.
Babaseyi was represented at the event by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Emmanuel.
Beyond the awards, Olatunji also moderated a panel discussion featuring Aina, Animasaun and ASP Emmanuel, during which the speakers examined the role of ethical journalism, responsible public communication and fact-based reporting in addressing insecurity and promoting national development.
The keynote address was delivered on behalf of the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mr Eze Anaba, by the Founder of Penpushing Media, Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji, who urged campus journalists to embrace accuracy, verification and ethical reporting.
The ceremony also featured the unveiling of TACJ’s annual magazine, the presentation of the Personality of the Year Award to Ishola Solomon Oluwalope, and the induction of a new generation of campus journalists.
Speaking at the event, the organisers reaffirmed TACJ’s commitment to nurturing ethical journalists, promoting literary excellence, strengthening collaboration within the campus press community and using journalism as a tool for peace, accountability and national development.
