The Plateau State Government has imposed an immediate dusk-to-dawn curfew on three local government areas following emerging security concerns in parts of the state.
The affected local government areas are Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu, where residents have been ordered to restrict their movement between 6pm and 6am until further notice.
The directive, which took effect on Monday, September 21, 2026, was announced by the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, in a statement issued on Monday.
The government said the measure was aimed at giving security agencies room to stabilise the affected areas, protect lives and prevent a further breakdown of law and order.
In a further restriction, the government also banned the use of motorcycles across the three LGAs with immediate effect.
Residents have been directed to comply with the restrictions and reorganise their commercial, agricultural and other activities around the curfew hours.
The government also directed security operatives to enforce the curfew and motorcycle ban across the affected communities.
According to the statement, personnel deployed for the enforcement exercise have been instructed to operate professionally while carrying out their duties.
The government did not give details of specific incidents that prompted the latest restrictions but said the directive followed security incidents reported in parts of Plateau State, particularly in Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu.
The three LGAs have previously featured prominently in security concerns in Plateau State, with attacks and communal tensions periodically affecting communities in the areas.
The government urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and comply with the restrictions as efforts continue to restore stability.
