The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the deployment of four new Commissioners of Police to Plateau, Enugu, Nasarawa and Ondo states.
The commission said the postings followed a series of screening interviews conducted to assess the competence, suitability and readiness of the senior police officers to take charge of the respective state commands.
The Head of Protocol and Public Relations of the PSC, Mr Torty Kalu, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday.
According to the statement, the newly deployed commissioners are Sunday Okoebor, who will head the Plateau State Police Command; Fidelis Ogarabe, Enugu State; Sheikh Danko, Nasarawa State; and Johnson Babalola, Ondo State.
The PSC Chairman, Mr Hashimu Argungu, who was represented at the confirmation of the postings by a member of the commission’s board, Justice Paul Galumje, said the appointments were made in accordance with Section 215(1)(b) of the 1999 Constitution.
The provision empowers the commission to appoint Commissioners of Police for each state of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
Argungu said the commission subjected the officers to interviews to determine their suitability for the responsibilities attached to their new positions.
He added that the officers were found worthy in learning and character, expressing confidence in their ability to discharge their duties effectively.
The PSC chairman charged the newly deployed commissioners to demonstrate impartiality, professionalism and commitment to policing responsibilities, stressing the need for them to justify the confidence reposed in them.
He urged the officers to live up to the expectations of the commission and the public, particularly in the discharge of their responsibilities in their respective commands.
