A 28-year-old man, identified as Ibrahim Augustine, has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly stabbing his 21-year-old neighbour, Haggai Markus, to death following a disagreement over roasted meat in Mubi North Local Government Area of the state.
The tragic incident, which reportedly occurred at Mararaban Vimtim community around 8pm on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, has raised fresh concerns over the growing resort to violence in the settlement of seemingly minor disagreements.
The police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroji, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, saying the altercation allegedly started over roasted meat taken from a butcher’s table.
According to the police, the disagreement escalated into a violent confrontation during which Augustine allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed Markus in the chest.
Nguroji said the incident was reported to the police at about 8:45pm on the same day by the deceased’s father, identified as Markus Gabo.
Following the report, police operatives attached to the Mubi North Divisional Police Headquarters reportedly rushed to the scene, where they found the 21-year-old victim lying dead in a pool of blood.
The police spokesperson said a knife suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered as an exhibit, while the suspect was arrested and taken into custody.
He added that photographs of the crime scene were taken and the victim’s remains were evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.
“The suspect was apprehended and taken into custody. Photographs of the scene were taken. The corpse was evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, where a medical doctor confirmed the victim dead,” the statement said.
The command disclosed that the suspect, alongside the case diary, would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Kabir Hassan, commiserated with the bereaved family and assured residents that justice would be served.
Hassan also cautioned residents against resorting to violence over disagreements, urging them to embrace peaceful conflict resolution and report disputes to the police rather than take the law into their hands.
The latest killing comes days after another fatal neighbour-related dispute was reported in Osun State.
PLATFORM TIMES recalls that a farmer, Samson Gabriel, was reportedly hacked to death by his neighbour, Lekan Oyebamiji, following a disagreement over money in Akinlalu community, Osun State.
Residents had alleged that Oyebamiji attacked Gabriel with a machete during the argument, triggering tension in the community, with some residents reportedly leaving their homes for fear of possible police arrests.
