An Eze Ndigbo in a Lagos community (name withheld) has been arrested and detained for allegedly assaulting his wife.
The community leader was arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command
The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, confirmed this via a statement issued on Friday.
Vivour-Adeniyi explained that the community leader inflicted injuries on his wife on April 9 in the Ajah area of Lagos.
“Following a report of physical assault by the community leader, who allegedly brutally assaulted his wife on Easter Sunday, leaving her with grievous injuries on her body and swollen eyes, the agency rescued the survivor from the site of the abuse and she has been placed in a private shelter.
“The perpetrator has been arrested by the Divisional Police station, Ajah Family Support Unit and he is currently in detention,” she said.
The DSVA boss noted that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has also requested the duplicate case file.
Vivour-Adeniyi, who stated that domestic violence is a crime against Lagos State, said: “At the Lagos DSVA, we wish to state that all forms of abuse are crimes not only against the survivors but also against the state.
“We are committed to ensuring that all perpetrators, irrespective of their status, are made to face the full wrath of the law.”
