High Chief Tope Ijiniga, the Ayadi of Ore community in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, has expressed deep concerns over the tragic explosion that claimed lives while some residents attempted to scoop petrol from a fallen tanker on July 23, 2023.
The community leader who highlighted the devastating impact of the explosion, stressed the dangers of greed, as some residents sought to make quick money by scooping fuel from the fallen tanker.
He expressed regret over the loss of lives and emphasized the importance of avoiding such reckless actions that could lead to fatal consequences.
Regarding the emergency response, the community leader lamented the lack of firefighters in Ore and the entire Odigbo Local Government Area.
He revealed that government officials arrived on Monday after the incident, but the absence of firefighting equipment hindered their ability to respond promptly.
High Chief Tope Ijiniga called for urgent government intervention to provide functioning firefighting facilities that could effectively tackle emergencies and save lives and property in the community.
Aside from the tragedy, High Chief Tope Ijiniga highlighted other challenges facing Ore and the entire Odigbo Local Government Area.
