The Olota of Ota, Oba (Prof) Abdulkabir Adeyemi Obalanlege, has made an appeal to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to declare Isese Day as a nationwide celebration.

He believes that such a move would promote peaceful coexistence and showcase the diverse cultural and traditional heritage of people across the states of the Federation.

It has been reported that during a presentation at his palace on the theme “Embracing Traditional Religion for Peaceful Coexistence in the Global Village,” Obalanlege shared that preparations have been finalized for the inaugural Isese Day event scheduled for Sunday, August 20th.

Oba Olota emphasized, “In the Nigerian constitution, every individual has the right to practice a religion of their choosing, contributing to peace, especially in our democratic context.

“My intention is not discriminatory; rather, it is to encourage religions to promote harmonious living and contribute solutions to societal challenges.”

The Chairman of the Isese Parapo Organization and Araba of Ota, Oluwo Dr. Fasola Faniyi, expressed that the occasion would amplify the richness of African cultural heritage, fostering unity without ethnic discord.

He disclosed, “For a long time, we’ve wished for August 20th to be designated as our annual Isese festival day.

“We’ve penned numerous letters and press releases to those in authority, but to no avail.

“We deeply appreciate Prince Dapo Abiodun for taking the courageous step that eluded his predecessors, despite our appeals.”

The Coordinator of Traditional Practitioners in Ota, Chief Fatai Aina Alebiosu, along with Yeye Iwase, Chief Mrs. Iyabo Ahmed, assured that the traditional practices have always honored the heritage of their ancestors.

They urged Ota natives, both locally and abroad, to enthusiastically participate in celebrating Isese Day, thereby upholding and enriching Yoruba cultural values.
