About twelve suspected internet fraudsters, commonly called “Yahoo Boys,” have been nabbed for allegedly burying a newborn baby as part of a money-making ritual.
This incident was discovered by the state’s Local Government Security Watch, which disclosed that it happened at the Andoni waterfront on Eagle Island, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
According to the Security Watch, the internet fraudsters buried the newborn baby after being alerted to their activities by youths in the area.
As a result, some of its members were deployed immediately to the scene after receiving the report about their ritual. However, the Yahoo boys had returned to their hotel before the arrival of the members.
Upon scrutinizing the environment, the agency discovered that the Yahoo Boys had buried an item after performing some rituals.
After digging, they found a baby. However, it was not clear whether the baby was alive or dead before being buried by the suspected fraudsters.
Confirming this, the Chairman of the Port Harcourt Security outfit, Victor Ohaji, said members of his group received a tip that some internet fraudsters were carrying out fetish activities at the waterfront on Wednesday morning.
He said the investigation by his men led to the discovery of the buried baby.
He confirmed the arrest of the suspects, stating that they are about 12 in number, and added that they were traced to a hotel near the area.
He added that the suspects and the dead baby were handed over to operatives of Azikiwe Police Division on Eagle Island.
It was gathered that the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the Rivers State Police Command in Port Harcourt.
The Police are yet to speak on this incident at the time of filing this report.
