The vigilant operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully intercepted illicit drug consignments cunningly concealed in seemingly innocent items, uncovering a web of drug smuggling activities at various locations in Lagos.
In a significant operation, NDLEA officers seized a consignment of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis, meticulously hidden within tins of tomato paste.
The intercepted skunk, weighing a substantial 20.00 kilograms, was discovered at the SAHCO export shed of the bustling Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State. This operation took place on Friday, September 8, 2023.
Simultaneously, NDLEA authorities uncovered another sinister plot involving the smuggling of methamphetamine, a highly addictive synthetic drug, concealed within used clothes.
This nefarious shipment, with a gross weight of 1.60 kilograms, was seized at a courier company in Lagos, sending shockwaves through the illegal drug trade network.
Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for NDLEA, revealed these groundbreaking operations in a statement released on Sunday, September 10, 2023.
He underscored the agency’s unwavering commitment to combatting drug trafficking and abuse, safeguarding both local and international communities.
Babafemi further disclosed that the NDLEA’s Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) successfully intercepted another illicit consignment of 556 grams of Canadian Loud.
This shipment was en route from Canada to a recipient named Tunji Adebayo in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.
Although Adebayo was not present when NDLEA operatives arrived at his residence on 52, Aina Atoloye Street, Ikorodu, he instructed his younger brother to accept the package on his behalf. Consequently, his brother was promptly apprehended.
In another commendable operation, a 22-year-old suspect named Agada Emmanuel was arrested with a staggering 77.400 kilograms of cannabis along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja expressway in Kogi State on Thursday.
Furthermore, NDLEA officers successfully recovered an astonishing 369,980 pills of opioids on the same road just a few days earlier, on Monday, September 4.
The suspect associated with this significant seizure, Kabiru Ahmad Abdullahi, was apprehended during a follow-up operation conducted in Gombe State.
In addition to their rigorous drug control efforts, NDLEA state commands and other formations have actively continued the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaigns.
These campaigns reach schools, worship places, palaces, and local communities, among others, emphasizing the importance of combating drug abuse and addiction.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, extended his heartfelt commendations to the agency’s dedicated anti-narcotics officers.
He applauded their tireless efforts in both drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction activities, urging them and their colleagues nationwide to persist in their noble mission to combat drug-related crimes.
