In a significant move showcasing his commitment to the welfare of senior citizens, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has authorized the immediate release of N1 billion in gratuity payments to both State and Local Government pensioners.
This decision follows his earlier promise to increase the quarterly disbursement of gratuity from N600 million to N1 billion during an interactive session with pensioners at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto.
Mrs. Olubukola Adeniregun, Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of Local Government Pensions, affirmed the State Government’s dedication to honoring those who contributed significantly during their active years to elevate the State.
She highlighted that monthly pension payments have remained consistent, and the quarterly gratuity disbursement has continued uninterrupted.
Furthermore, Governor Abiodun has granted irrevocable approval for monthly pensions to be disbursed before the salaries of current workers, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to prioritizing retirees’ financial security.
As part of ongoing palliative measures, senior citizens are also receiving a monthly N10,000 allowance to mitigate the impact of subsidy removal. This support will continue for three consecutive months initially.
Leaders of pensioners’ associations, including Pastor Benedict Ademoye of LOGPAN, Mr. Zaacheous Adekoya of ARPSTOS, and Mrs. Caroline Oguntola of REPSTAN, expressed their appreciation for the increased gratuity disbursement and the regularity of monthly pension payments.
They urged Governor Abiodun to continue his efforts in enhancing the quality of life for senior citizens.
In closing, they encouraged pensioners to seek clarification from their respective associations rather than relying on unverified news sources, reaffirming the government’s unwavering commitment to their well-being.
