In response to the alarming statistics from UNESCO, which revealed that approximately 20 million Nigerian children are out of school, Inside Ogun Magazine, a well-known publication based in Ogun state, has launched a promising initiative.
Their mission is aligned with the Universal Basic Education Commission’s goal to reintegrate school-age children into classrooms across the country.
According to the UNESCO report, around 200 million people live in Nigeria, with a staggering number of children between the ages of six and eleven currently not enrolled in school.
Inside Ogun Magazine, under the banner of “Let the Kids Breathe,” has pledged to provide essential school supplies such as school bags, notebooks, pens, pencils, and socks to primary school children in all 20 local government areas within Ogun state.
The publisher of the tabloid, Oluwafisayomi Ajibola, unveiled this ambitious exercise in the state capital, Abeokuta.
He noted that while the initiative has been active for nearly five years in Ado/Odo Ota Local Government, it will now expand to reach all local governments in the state, benefiting approximately 500 children in each locality.
Ajibola remarked, “In the past, we experienced a system of free education that included the provision of essential items to make school attendance exciting.
However, it is disheartening to witness children who should be in school aimlessly roaming the streets or engaging in street vending.
Inside Ogun Magazine aims to give back to society by extending our reach to all 20 local governments in Ogun state, distributing items such as school bags, notebooks, pens, pencils, and socks.”
Recognizing the scope of their mission, Ajibola called upon kind-hearted individuals and corporate organizations to collaborate with the news outlet by donating the required items.
He stated, “We appeal to generous individuals and corporate entities to contribute items like school bags, notebooks, pens, pencils, and socks, which can be customized to your preferences.
We will ensure these items are distributed judiciously to underprivileged school children in the state.”
Additionally, Inside Ogun Magazine is accepting monetary donations as low as ₦2000 from the general public to aid in the purchase of these essential items.
The initiative is set to continue throughout the first term of the school session.
Inside Ogun Magazine is a prominent online news platform with a focus on events and developments in Ogun state.
It also hosts a weekly radio program on select radio stations across the state.
