    Delta Commissioner Distributes Writing Materials To Students To Mark World Science Day

    The Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Delta State, Hon. (Dr.) Odinigwe Daniel Odigie on Friday distributed writing materials to students of various schools to celebrate World Science Day.

    The 2023 World Science Day for Peace and Development highlights the significant role of science in our society and the need to engage the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues.

    The World Science Day celebration; Peace and Development, theme ” Building Trust in Science” underlines the importance and relevance of science in every life with the vision to develop, create, innovate, invest, and adapt meaningful and strong industrial linkages driven by brainpower capable of providing high quality of life for Deltans.

    In his opening address, the commissioner, Odinigwe noted that the World Science Day celebration holds a special significance in the global community as it reflects on the role of science and technology in promoting peace, fostering sustainable development, and improving the quality of life across the board.

    He explained that the need to trust in science must be nurtured and earned, especially in an age of misinformation and mistrust.

    He called on citizens and society at large for a reaffirmation of commitment to building trust in science, saying science is a force for good and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that it continues to be a beacon of hope and progress.

    Speaking during an interview, the permanent secretary, ministry of Science, technology, and Innovation Dr. Ejiro Ogheneaga disclosed that the 2023 World Science Day celebration was to create an awareness campaign on the importance of science in our every life.

    He maintained that the “ministry has a lot of programmes in stock to train youths across the state that are in line with the governor’s MORE Agenda.
