PDP Cautions Against Ganduje’s Unscheduled Bayelsa Visit Ahead of Governorship Poll

In a dramatic turn of events, the Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), cautioning him against his unannounced visit to the state  before the upcoming governorship election.

The PDP raised concerns that Ganduje’s visit could further exacerbate the already tense security situation in the region.

The PDP’s Publicity Secretary in Bayelsa, Mr. Ebiye Ogoli, expressed the party’s dismay at Ganduje’s intended visit, especially considering that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had stipulated the deadline for political campaign activities at midnight on Thursday, November 9, 2023.

According to the PDP, Ganduje, who is neither an accredited international nor local observer for the Saturday election, nor a registered voter in Bayelsa, should not be in the state at this crucial time.

The party raised concerns that Ganduje’s presence could validate allegations of the APC’s involvement in electoral malpractice and the compromise of both voters and the electoral process.

The PDP emphasized the need for responsible leadership and statesmanship in Nigeria’s democratic journey, as opposed to actions that undermine the integrity of elections.

In light of these concerns, the PDP called on Ganduje to reconsider his visit, emphasizing that the state is already facing security challenges, and his presence should not exacerbate an already volatile situation.

The party further asserted its commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process and warned against any attempts to manipulate the outcome, as the people would defend their democratic rights.

The PDP also expressed confidence in the lead of its candidate, Governor Douye Diri, based on the indications from various entrance polls, asserting that he is poised to secure victory in all eight local government areas of the state.
