The Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced that it has not only generated an unprecedented N30,408,276.00 in revenue but also exhibited a 400% increase compared to the same period in 2022.
The Acting Customs Area Controller of Ogun 1 Area Command, Deputy Comptroller Ahmadu Bello Shuaibu stated this on Wednesday, at a press briefing held at Idiroko, unveiling remarkable achievements for the month of October 2023.
Shuaibu attributed the extraordinary surge to the Command’s steadfast commitment to trade facilitation and robust engagement with stakeholders.
He disclosed that the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of seizures during October 2023 amounted to an impressive N398,470,687.00.
Highlighting the command’s unyielding stance against smuggling, Shuaibu announced a total seizure of 122 items.
Among these were 901 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, colloquially known as Marijuana or Indian hemp, underscoring the command’s dedication to curbing illegal narcotics trade.
Additionally, the Command seized 500 foreign-used Pneumatic Tyres (Tokunbo tyres), 23 vehicles employed for transporting prohibited goods, and 5 foreign-used vehicles (Tokunbo).
In a significant move against illegal importation, the Command confiscated 4,684 bags of foreign parboiled rice, equivalent to eight fully loaded trailers.
The Deputy Comptroller commended the efforts of the Command’s personnel, emphasizing that their diligence and commitment were pivotal to these remarkable achievements.
He stated, “Our resolve to remain resolute in the anti-smuggling fight has yielded tangible results, and we will continue to employ proactive measures to secure our borders and protect our nation from illicit activities.”
This impressive performance not only reflects the efficacy of the Command’s anti-smuggling strategies but also underscores its pivotal role in revenue generation, showcasing a significant boost in the economic contributions of Ogun 1 Area Command.
The achievements in October 2023 set a new benchmark for customs operations, marking a period of notable success for the Command.

In a proactive move to bolster cooperation with key stakeholders in Ogun State, the Customs Command embarked on a comprehensive familiarization tour of traditional institutions and security agencies upon resumption of office.
Shuaibu said that during the tour, the Customs delegation received warm receptions at the palaces of Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, the Olota and Paramount Ruler of Aworiland, and Oniko of Ikolaje Kingdom, Idiroko.
He added that the NCS visited the State Commands/Unit of the Nigerian Police (NPF), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Department of Security Service, Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), 35 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy School of Music (NNSM), and 192 Battalion Rear of the Nigerian Army .
According to him, assurances of continuous support and a commitment to maintaining a good working relationship were secured from all the visited institutions.
He said the gesture reinforced the importance of synergy in addressing the economic well-being and security of the nation.
The customs command emphasized its unwavering dedication to discharging statutory responsibilities diligently and patriotically.
The agency reaffirmed its open-door policy, encouraging the support of patriotic Nigerians through the sharing of valuable information related to legitimate trade and general activities.
Particular attention was drawn to the Command’s determination to curb smuggling activities in Ogun State, with a stern warning to smugglers of the severe consequences they would face.
The persistent seizure of items such as Cannabis Sativa and foreign-used pneumatic tyres underscores the Command’s commitment to protecting the youth from harmful substances and ensuring road safety.
