In a scathing critique, former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has taken aim at the current Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, asserting that he is unfit for the prestigious office he holds.

Ezekwesili’s criticism, expressed on Wednesday via a tweet, contends that Akpabio’s occupancy of the Senate President position is a stain on Nigeria’s democracy, attributing it to the compromised state of the country’s judiciary.

The former minister alleges that the Court of Appeal, entrusted with upholding justice, has forsaken prudence and allowed itself to be swayed by corrupt and decadent politicians.

Ezekwesili pulls no punches in her assessment, stating that Akpabio is entangled in a web of hubris and warns against the arrogance of those who believe empires are indestructible, a sentiment she encapsulates with a quote from Marianne Williamson.

Acknowledging opposition party members for fulfilling their democratic responsibilities, Ezekwesili singles out Senators Nwoye, Ireti Kingibe, and others from the Labour Party for their commendable stance.

She urges them to use their collective voices to address issues affecting the citizens who elected them into office.

The former minister also addresses the controversial matter of luxury SUVs acquired by lawmakers, calling on elected officials to prioritize the interests of the citizens who bestowed upon them the mandate to legislate.

In a rallying cry against what she terms “Monopoly Democracy,” Ezekwesili implores opposition figures to lead the way in breaking free from the political class rascality exemplified by Akpabio and his associates.

As the nation grapples with these allegations and calls for opposition unity intensify, the political landscape remains charged with tension, raising questions about the state of Nigeria’s democracy and the role of its judiciary in upholding the principles of justice
