Governor of Ogun State,Dapo Abiodun has unveiled a generous reward scheme, applauding academic brilliance and championing a unique work-study programme.
The highlight of his announcement was the commendable gesture of awarding two million Naira to each of the three best graduating students of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun state.
The governor displayed the show of love on Tuesday at the convocation of 13th, 14th & 15th ceremony of 2020/2021, 2021/2022, held at School Auditorium, Ijagun, Ogun State.
The recipients of this prestigious honour are Sunday Oluwafemi, boasting an exceptional GPA of 4.89 in 2020/2021; Obadina Patricia Elibe, matching the feat with a GPA of 4.89 in 2021/2022; and Mercy Deborah Sanyaolu, rounding off the trio with a commendable GPA of 4.86 in 2022/2023.
Governor Abiodun’s recognition extended further, with a substantial cash award of N500,000 bestowed upon the best graduating students from each of the colleges for the three academic years.
This comprehensive acknowledgment emphasizes the commitment of the government to fostering academic excellence across diverse disciplines.
Notably, the governor celebrated the remarkable achievement of Okewale Nelson, a first-class student in mathematics, who navigated the demands of a work-study program while achieving academic excellence.
Abiodun underscored the significance of Nelson’s accomplishment, dispelling the notion that employment during study hampers academic success.
He urged other students to embrace such programmes, viewing them as pathways to success.
However, amid the jubilation, Governor Abiodun expressed empathy for students who fell victim to a recent off-campus robbery incident.
He pledged to eradicate criminal elements threatening the peace of the state, reiterating his administration’s zero-tolerance policy for criminal activities.
In a motivating message to the graduating students, Abiodun encouraged them to reciprocate the gift of learning and character modeling bestowed upon them by the institution.
Emphasizing the state’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for growth and development, he promised to utilize vocational courses acquired during their time in school to propel economic stability.
In his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Oluwole Banjo, said TASUED has produced 113 First Class as 12,700 graduated in the various degrees of the university and 329 in the Postgraduate College.
While congratulating the graduates, he noted that their hard work, dedication and unwavering commitment have brought them to this pivotal moment, stressing that they have not only acquire knowledge but have also grown as individuals, and today, they reap the rewards of their perseverance.
He enjoined them not to forget qualities been inculcated in them during their studentship and seek further to attain knowledge.
He charged them to be agents of positive change and ready to adapt to any Environment they find themselves, concluded that, they should ready for any challenges they may encounter in their journey of life.
“As you move forward into the next phase of your lives, it’s important to reflect on the values that have been instilled in you during your time at
TASUED. Remember the importance of intellectual curiosity, critical thinking and the pursuit of knowledge. Continue to ask questions, seek answers, and never stop learning.
“Ladies and gentlemen, as you graduate into the world, you’ll find yourselves at various times at crossroads, on the precipice of a world filled with opportunities, In a world that is constantly changing and evolving, the knowledge you’ve acquired is invaluable.
“You are equipped to not only adapt to changes but to be agents of positive change. As you step out into the world, remember that success is not just about personal achievements but also about the impact you make on others and the world around you.
“I encourage you to embrace the challenges that lie ahead. It is through adversity that we discover our true potentials and resilience.
“When you encounter obstacles, remember that they are opportunities in disguise. Be persistent, be determined, and never lose sight of your dreams.
In his remarks, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council; Prof Rahamon Bello, noted that the institution has developed a reputation as being dynamic, accessible and responsive to change.
