The Ogun State police command has confirmed the shooting incident involving a popular Nigerian actor and movie director, Azeez Ololade Ijaduade.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state,Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident on Sunday in a statement.
Odutola said the incident occured during an event at the Bramaj Company end-of-year party hosted at Napoli Hotel in Iperu, Ogun State, when a mobile policeman attached to a Chinese expatriate discharged a shot into the air.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that incident, which occurred on December 23, 2023, at approximately 11:24hrs, has left the entertainment industry and the public in suspense.
She further explained that the hotel manager, Fakoya Adewale, promptly reported the incident to the Ogun State Police Command, detailing how the ammunition shell from the reckless shot struck Azeez Ijaduade on the neck.
She said “swift action was taken as the victim was rushed to the nearby Ilishan hospital, where he is currently in stable condition.
“Commander Mopol 16, upon learning of the incident, took personal responsibility for the medical bills and visited Azeez in the hospital.”
She added that, speaking with the actor, the Commander confirmed that Azeez is recuperating well and is expected to be discharged soon.
The police have assured the public that updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
She said the identity of the mobile policeman involved in the incident has been established, and a thorough investigation into the matter has commenced.
“The police are determined to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the shooting and hold the responsible parties accountable.
Odutola, assured the public that information would be disseminated as the investigation unfolds.
News of the incident quickly spread on social media, with Azeez Ijaduade’s colleague, Abiodun Adebanjo, taking to Instagram to seek help and draw attention to the unfortunate incident.
The statement read “The Ogun State Police Command received a report of a shooting incident on the 23rd of December 2023 at about 11:24hrs from one Fakoya Adewale “m” Napoli Hotel manager In Iperu where he reported to the Divisional Police Officer that during Bramaj Company end of year party in the hotel a mobile Policeman attached to the Chinese expatriate expended a shot into the air and unfortunately the ammunition shell hit one Azeez Ijaduade “m “an actor on the neck.
“He was rushed to hospital in Ilishan and he is in a very stable condition.
“The Commander Mopol 16 has contacted the actor and also visited him in the hospital where he will be discharged soon. The Commander has also taken up responsibility for the medical bill.
“The actor speaking to the Commander Mopol 16 has confirmed he is in stable condition ,members of the public will be notified when he is discharged.
“The Mobile Policeman have been identified and investigation into the shooting incident has commenced by the Command,members of the public will be updated accordingly.”
