Police Establish  Special Squad To  Address Plateau Attacks

In the aftermath of a recent assault in Plateau State resulting in the tragic loss of 195 lives, the Nigeria Police Force has taken decisive action by creating a Special Operation Squad to address the escalating insecurity in the region.

Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, made the announcement during a condolence visit to Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Government House in Jos.

Expressing concern over the recent attacks, Egbetokun outlined the strategic deployment of additional tactical and intelligence units to support the existing security measures.

“This special operation will mark the initiation of our special intervention squad, aimed at addressing the pressing security challenges in ten pilot states, with Plateau being a priority,” stated IGP Egbetokun.

Emphasizing the significance of community collaboration, the IGP called upon the people of Plateau to actively participate in the fight against criminal elements.

He stressed that the ongoing conflict should be viewed as a collective battle against criminals rather than an intertribal strife.

During his visit, IGP Egbetokun underscored the importance of securing the affected areas, ensuring protection from further criminal activities.

The recent assault on Bokkos and its surrounding areas during Christmas Eve resulted in the loss of over 190 lives, numerous injuries, and extensive damage to property.

The attacks extended into neighbouring Barkin Ladi, amplifying concerns about the safety and security of the region.

Despite the challenges, the IGP remains optimistic, urging the people of Plateau to unite against the common enemy.

In his words, “With the cooperation of the people of Plateau, a solution is in sight. We should not perceive this as a war against any specific tribe but as a collective effort against criminals and enemies of our country.”

The establishment of the Special Operation Squad signifies a determined effort by the Nigeria Police Force to restore peace and security to Plateau State, acknowledging that the collaboration of both law enforcement and local communities is imperative in overcoming the current crisis.
