Aregbesola Alleges Oyetola Of Betrayal , Hints On Imminent Declaration Of Future Plans

In a startling revelation, former Osun State Governor and ex-Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has accused his successor, Gboyega Oyetola, of betrayal.

Aregbesola said this during an end-of-the-year thanksgiving event organized by his loyalists in Ilesa, Osun state.

Aregbesola, who served as governor from 2010 to 2018, expressed disappointment over what he perceives as a betrayal of his interests and those of the party.

He claimed, “We handed over power to the person who we felt would meet our interests and that of the party, but he betrayed us and the party.”

Highlighting his commitment to party unity, Aregbesola clarified that his only request was to prevent the destruction of the party, emphasizing that he did not seek personal gains.

He recounted disagreements being aired publicly, adding, “I did not ask for money, positions, or acceptance of my counsel.”

The former governor detailed unsuccessful attempts at reconciliation, citing an agreement made before the 2022 election.

He alleged that promises, including the allocation of positions in the next administration, were ignored.

Aregbesola revealed, “On OSBC, their leader of the governorship campaign said that anybody who was not invited should not come for the campaign.”

In response to these developments, Aregbesola hinted at announcing his next political move soon, assuring that by 2024, the direction for Osun would become clear.

He expressed confidence in his decision, stating, “By the grace of God, by this time in 2024, I would have declared where we are heading to, and it will be clear to everyone where Osun people are heading to.”

The rift between Aregbesola and Oyetola, which escalated in the lead-up to the 2022 Osun governorship poll, resulted in a divided All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Despite the internal discord, Oyetola secured the APC governorship ticket but faced defeat in the July 2022 governorship election, losing to Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
