In a significant stride towards operational commencement, Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced on Monday that it is poised to begin the production of refined petroleum products.

The refinery marked this milestone with the reception of its sixth batch of one million barrels of crude oil, a crucial component for its initial operations.

In an official statement released on Monday, the company expressed its readiness to enter the production phase, highlighting that the sixth batch of Agbami crude, delivered via MT ALMI SUN, completed the scheduled initial consignment of six million barrels required for the launch of operations at the world’s largest single-train refinery.

Exactly one month ago, Dangote refinery received its first one million barrels of Agbami crude grade from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited, a major player in the Nigerian and global crude oil trading scene.

Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, Akin Omole, emphasized at the Dangote Quay in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, that the refinery is poised for operation once the full six million barrels are delivered.

He outlined the refinery’s initial focus on producing diesel, aviation fuel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas, followed by the production of Premium Motor Spirit.

This development is anticipated to address fuel supply challenges not only in Nigeria but also in West African countries.

The 650,000 barrels per day Dangote Petroleum Refinery, designed for 100% Nigerian crude with flexibility for other crudes, is capable of processing various African crude grades, Middle Eastern Arab Light, US Light tight oil, and crude from other nations.

According to the company, the refinery is positioned to meet 100% of Nigeria’s refined product requirements, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet fuel, with a surplus available for export.
