The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, refuted claims of engaging in a private conversation with former President Olusegun Obasanjo during the closed-door meeting with Ohanaeze chieftains in Owerri, Imo State capital, on Friday.
In an interview on Arise Television, Iwuanyanwu clarified that there were no private discussions with Obasanjo, countering earlier speculations surrounding the closed-door meeting.
During the meeting at the residence of the Ohanaeze President General, issues of mutual interest were reportedly deliberated upon. Secretary General Okey Emuchay confirmed that the discussions were symbolic and crucial, emphasizing the significance of the courtesy visit.
However, he did not disclose specific details about the topics covered.
Emuchay revealed, “Issues of mutual interest were discussed,” without elaborating further.
He mentioned that Iwuanyanwu acknowledged Obasanjo’s historical contributions, suggesting the erection of monuments in his name to honour the former President for his past endeavours, including the resolution of the civil war and economic recovery during his presidency.
Accompanying Obasanjo was Chief Oyewole Fasawe, while other notable figures present at the meeting included Emuchay, former Minister for Aviation Kema Chikwe, Bishop Sunday Onuoha, Fidelis Ozichukwu, and Chief Tony Ukasanya.
Iwuanyanwu, known for advocating the cause of Ndigbo, has been actively involved in issues such as seeking the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Additionally, he has consistently championed the development of the South East as a major industrial hub in the West African sub-region, encouraging Ndigbo to invest in their homeland.
