Bandits have  attacked Kuka Babangida village in the Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, leaving a trail of tragedy by murdering nine residents, including the village head, Idris Haruna.

The heartbreaking incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, with bandits reportedly descending on the village shortly before midnight and continuing their rampage until approximately 1:30 am.

The chilling details were confirmed by the Chairman of the Local Government Council, Bashir Sabiu, and the spokesperson for the Katsina Police Command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu.

According to accounts from villagers, the bandits systematically went from house to house, searching for valuables, particularly money.

The ruthless attack resulted in the deaths of the village head, his four children, and four others. It remains unclear whether the bandits also abducted individuals during the assault or left with stolen valuables.

The state Commissioner for Internal Security, Nasiru Muazu, expressed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of the people.

In a statement through his spokesperson, Hassan Dan-Alli, he asserted, “The state is committed to the protection of lives and property of people of the state.

We shall not relent in our efforts to ensure that our people are safe wherever they are.”
As the community grapples with this tragedy, efforts were underway to bury the victims at the time of filing this report.

This latest attack follows a similarly gruesome incident last Friday, where bandits killed six traders en route to a local market at Yan Tumaki in the Danmusa Local Government Area of the state.

The traders, travelling from Maidabino, fell victim to an attack just a few kilometres from the market.

The recurring violence underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures and a concerted effort to address the pervasive threat of banditry in the region.
