Fatai Owoseni, the Special Adviser on Security to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has refuted claims linking the recent explosion in Ibadan to Boko Haram.
Addressing the media at a press conference held in the Briefing Room of the Governor’s Office in Agodi, Ibadan, Owoseni assured that the area of the incident has been secured to prevent criminal activities.
Describing these claims as misinformation, Owoseni stated, “People have come out to say that Boko Haram elements have been allowed to invade Oyo State, especially Ibadan.
This is incorrect. Some people have also said a helicopter flew over the place and dropped the bomb. That is, in its entirety, incorrect too.”
Rejecting the notion of dynamite use in nearby construction sites, Owoseni, from a security perspective, suggested that preliminary evidence points to the long-term storage of explosives in the area.
He emphasized Governor Makinde’s commitment to encouraging citizens to report any suspicious activities.
Governor Makinde’s preliminary investigation attributed the explosion to explosives stored by illegal miners occupying a house in the Bodija area.
As of Wednesday evening, the governor reported three fatalities, with 60 out of nearly 80 injured individuals discharged from hospitals.
