In a shocking incident, gunmen targeted the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by abducting its chairman, Philip Aivoji, along with nine other party members.
The incident took place at the Ogere axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Thursday evening.
Sources reveal that Aivoji and his party colleagues were returning from the PDP’s Stakeholders’ Zonal Caucus Meeting held in Ibadan, convened by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
The armed assailants intercepted their convoy, forcibly taking them into the nearby bush.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, confirmed the disturbing incident on Friday.
Alamutu reported that police engaged the gunmen in a gun battle, resulting in the release of nine of the abductees. Unfortunately, the PDP Chairman, Philip Aivoji, remained in captivity.
“The victims were kidnapped on Thursday evening at Ogere. Our officers engaged the gunmen in a confrontation, leading to the release of nine individuals.
However, the PDP Chairman was taken away.
“Our law enforcement is actively pursuing the kidnappers, and we anticipate their swift apprehension,” stated Alamutu.
