In a remarkable act of courage and quick thinking, Mr. Kingsley Benson, a driver in Calabar, saved a female passenger from a potential suicide attempt.

The incident unfolded when the driver, who was later identified as a bolt driver, picked up the distressed passenger at Bogobiri area in the city.

Mr. Benson became alarmed when the passenger, whose identity is being withheld, made a cryptic statement hinting at her emotional turmoil.

Speaking , the driver shared his concern, saying, “A lady requested a ride from Bogobiri this morning; I observed she was looking really sad.”

Despite attempts to engage her in conversation, the passenger remained distant, requesting the driver to turn on the air conditioner with a troubling comment, “Driver, please turn your air-conditioner, let me enjoy this last one.”

Recognizing the severity of the situation, Mr. Benson examined the nylon bag the passenger was carrying, suspecting it contained a harmful substance.

Realizing the urgency, Mr. Benson decided to intervene discreetly.

He informed the passenger that he needed to make a quick stop at Watt market, but instead, he drove directly to the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital on Calabar Road.

Sensing that the hospital would provide the necessary assistance, he reported the situation to the staff.

Upon inspection of the passenger’s bag, the hospital staff discovered a container of sniper, a lethal substance commonly used in suicide attempts.

The hospital promptly admitted the distressed passenger and assured Mr. Benson that appropriate measures would be taken to address the situation.

While efforts to reach the Hospital Management for official statements proved unsuccessful, a reliable source, requesting anonymity, confirmed the incident to Vanguard.

The source added that the girl’s relatives had been contacted, emphasizing the importance of timely intervention in preventing a tragedy.
