In a significant development, the Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution, endorsing the Nigerian Union of Mine Workers’ authority to issue tickets for its products within the state’s jurisdiction.
Simultaneously, the Truck Owners Association of Nigeria has been granted the right to issue tickets at a 50% rate of charges imposed by the Nigerian Union of Mine Workers to all truck drivers loading in quarries within the State.
This resolution stems from the comprehensive joint report presented by the House Committees on Industry, Trade, and Investments, as well as Justice, Ethics, and Public Petitions.
The report addressed the ongoing dispute between the Nigerian Union of Mine Workers and the Truck Owners Association of Nigeria regarding revenue collection.
Hon. Bisi Oyedele presented the report, moving for its adoption, a motion seconded by Hon. Oluseun Adesanya and supported by a unanimous voice vote from the entire House.
The committee’s report emphasized the jurisdiction of the Nigerian Union of Mine Workers within the quarry, justifying its right to issue tickets to purchasers of its products.
It further recommended that these tickets be exclusively obtained by purchasers of quarry products within the state.
Additionally, the Truck Owners Association of Nigeria is directed to issue tickets at a reduced rate of 50% compared to the charges levied by the Nigerian Union of Mine Workers, applicable to all truck drivers loading in quarries within the State.
This resolution aims to harmonize the operations and revenue collection processes within the mining sector, fostering a fair and equitable environment for all stakeholders involved.
