In a show of solidarity and unwavering support, constituents of Ifo 1 State Constituency have gathered at the APC Constituency office in Bungalow area, Ifo, for an inter-religious session ahead of the court proceedings challenging the legitimacy of the alleged removal of Olakunle Oluomo as Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly.
Led by Islamic and Christian religious leaders, hundreds of supporters on Monday, invoked prayers for divine intervention, drawing strength from relevant verses of the Holy books.
The Clergymen urged patience during this challenging period, emphasizing that trust in God would bring justice to their Assembly man.
Leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the five wards of the Constituency echoed a unified call for Rt Hon Oluomo to pursue the case to a logical conclusion, maintaining that the allegations against him were unwarranted.
Mrs. Kudirat Jolaosho, the Ifo local government Women leader of the APC, vehemently refuted media propaganda, declaring Oluomo’s innocence and urging unity among supporters.
“At this point, all of us should join our person (Rt Hon Oluomo) in prayers. I can boldly tell you that he is not a thief. And very soon, the court will clear him off the issues,” emphasised Jolaosho.
Meanwhile, in a remarkable display of solidarity, the Muslim community in Ifo land canceled the turbaning ceremony scheduled for Thursday, 8th February, 2024, in honour of Rt Hon Oluomo.
Chief Imam of Ifoland, Imam Ali Adegoriola Sanusi Olude, announced the decision after a meeting at Ifo Central Mosque.
Imam Olude explained that the cancellation was a reflection of the Muslim community’s concern for Oluomo’s current political challenges. Despite religious differences, the Imam highlighted Oluomo’s significant contributions to the Muslim congregation in the entire Ifo Constituency 1.
“We cannot be rejoicing, singing, dancing, and celebrating when our benefactor is facing a dark moment in his political career,” stated Imam Olude.
The League of Imams and Alfas in Ifo local government expressed unwavering support for Oluomo, assuring victory over his present trials through prayers.
The decision to cancel the turbaning ceremony was considered sensitive, given the potential impact on the political landscape in Ifoland.
Imam Olude concluded, “Insha Allah, Rt Hon Oluomo shall be victorious over his present travails.”
The cancellation, a poignant gesture of solidarity, reflects the depth of support for Oluomo as he faces the legal battle ahead.
