In a recent wave of cult clashes in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, four lives were tragically lost, and several individuals sustained gunshot injuries.

The violence erupted last weekend as rival cult groups engaged in a blood feud across different parts of the city.

The clashes began on Thursday when Dare, a suspected leader of the Eiye confraternity, was fatally shot in front of his home in the Ijeja area of Abeokuta. Known as Oloba, he fell victim to suspected members of the Buccaneer Confraternity.

Another suspected cultist, Tayo Alora, was later gunned down in the Isabo area on Sunday morning.

Eyewitnesses report that Tayo appeared to have been trailed before being fatally shot.

Concerned residents are urging swift action from the government and law enforcement agencies to prevent further escalation.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Omolola Odutola confirmed the incidents, revealing that two more suspected cult members lost their lives during the clashes.

Seun Elewode, a member of the Aye cult group, was fatally attacked during a shootout in the Adeun area of Lafenwa, Abeokuta.

Additionally, a suspected member of the Buccaneer Confraternity was killed in the Akinolugbade area of the town.

The PPRO reported that the violence included a shootout at a cool spot during a birthday party, resulting in Seun Elewode’s death.

Another suspected cultist was shot in the chest on February 4 in Oshungboye crescent in Akinolugbade.

Confirming the arrests, Odutola disclosed that 11 suspects are in custody in connection with the killings.
